Study Week 163: 1 Peter 1:1-9, "This May Hurt"
Week of August 28, 2011

In this epistle, Peter is writing to the believers in Christ scattered throughout Asia Minor.  No doubt Roman oppression of Jerusalem in the 60's AD contributed to this diaspora.  Peter, the elder statesman, writes to his global congregation.

And what does he write about? He reminds them first of all, of their great inheritance in heaven, safeguarded for them by God.  They are protected as beneficiaries by God's own power.  Their "election" is secure.

Peter also reminds them they are only sojourners on this beautiful planet: a people called by God into new life who are awaiting an eternal inheritance that never perishes, spoils, or fades.

This inheritance is worth more than all the gold in all the world for all time.  Not only is it priceless, it outweighs any amount of trials and tribulations that living for Christ might occasion or that may come as a result of our human condition in a broken world.

We have a lot to look forward to as people called by God.

We have hope --- based on very, very Good News that we can all be freely sharing with others.  So hopefuls, let's get going ... spread the hope to others as freely as it was shared with you.

God bless you as you live fully and without restraint for the Kingdom of God for the glory of God.

Blessings,

Pastor Michael
