Study Week 76: Matthew 6:11, "Give us this day our daily bread."
Week of October 11, 2009
In the sermon series on the Lord's Prayer, we've just transitioned from a focus on God to a focus on petitions: give us our daily bread, forgive us our debts, lead us not into temptation, etc.
Give us this day our daily bread! Greg's sermon emphasized the radical lifestyle we beseech when we pray this simple petition! It represents a radical call to dependence on God, solidarity with others, and lifestyle of gratitude.
What struck me about the sermon was the example from Dayne Seiling's life that Greg used. It was a beautiful illustration of how God just might be using you as an answer to someone else's prayer that God provide them with "daily bread" ... bread that would somehow, in some way, ameliorate their world of hurt -- desperate straits --- or severe needs. As we solemnly and earnestly pray this peitition, let us remember that God may be answering it for another in and through us -- you and/or me. Are you open to that; are you ready?
It's a joy to be a vessal filled with the Spirit, used by God, for his honor and glory.
Have a great study and enjoy one another's fellowship.
Blessings,
Pastor Michael
