Glory Days

greg.jpgPeople often ask me in our community about how our rebuild is going, and how it is working out for us to worship at Webster elementary school.  I tell them that our rebuilding efforts are going slow, but God has been and is with us every step of the way, so it is a great time to be at MPC!

Think about this for a moment: What are the "Glory Days" in your life?  As I look back over my life, my highpoints are not from the easy days of my life.  I take no pride in being able to beat my five-year old son in basketball.  Is that an impressive feat?  What kind of person would I be if I gloated over that win?  What kind of person would I be too long to beat him over-and-over again?

One of the highlights of my life was winning a tennis tournament in South Korea a little over 20 years ago, against a guy from Vanderbilt University.  It was on a muggy-hot-awful day of 90-degree heat and 80% humidity.  I could not cool off, I could not dry off, and my racket kept slipping in my wet hands.  Consequently, I was crushed in the first set 6-1.  I was tempted to give up and blame the heat, to quit and seek comfort somewhere else.  Instead, I battled my way back to win the match and tournament 7-6, 7-6.  Was I exhausted?  Yes!  Did I have anything left to give?  No!  Was it one of my "Glory Days?"  Without a doubt!

I am not telling this story to gloat, but to reflect by way of analogy on where we are as a church.  The conditions at Webster Elementary School are less than ideal for us.  I am sure we could all come up with a long list of gripes about holding church there, and reasons to stop coming to church until it got comfortable again.   But to stop attending now would mean one would miss out on one of the great "Glory Days" of our church.  I am sure 20 years from now we will look back on this difficult time and say, "I remember when it was hard to worship at Webster, when it would have been easy to quit, but we persevered and built a church together, were a church together, for the Glory of God."

Friends these are our "Glory Days," and I am grateful to be sharing them with you.  I wouldn't miss it for anything!
