Also on 60 Minutes this Sunday will be President-elect Barack Obama's first post-election TV interview.

Cathleen Lewis said, "I really want the church to be made aware of this, since our walk (tug-of-war) of faith began here at Malibu Pres. [The initial struggle] I was living day in and day out with baby, then toddler Rex brought me to my knees and pointed me to the church on the hill. I'd never really been to church before."

Watch Video Preview

Pictured below: Rex performs at MPC's Easter service.

We Can Rebuild It

One of my favorite TV shows growing up was the Six Million Dollar Man.

Do you remember it?

The show was about Steve Austin, an astronaut test pilot who was catastrophically mutilated in a test plane crash but rebuilt and equipped with nuclear powered "bionic" limbs and implants.

His right arm, both legs and left eye are replaced by bionics that enhance his strength, speed and vision far above human norms: he can run at speeds of 60 miles per hour, and his eye has a 20:1 zoom lens and infrared capabilities.

He uses his enhanced abilities to work for the OSI (Office of Scientific Intelligence) as a secret agent. How cool is that?

Steve Austin's experience feels a little bit like our experience at MPC. We too are being rebuilt after a catastrophic fire that destroyed our church and preschool buildings. One of our church's self-descriptions is that:

We recognize that we are an imperfect people, and an imperfect church; but, by God's grace, we are in the process of being reshaped into God's loving image. Being loved by God and made alive in Christ, we seek to be empowered by the Holy Spirit and grounded in God's Word.

We will rebuild our church structures, but more importantly God is rebuilding us for a great purpose. We have been called to work for a far superior organization than the OSI, we have been called to work for the KOG (Kingdom of God).

There is no higher calling in life. Our strategy for developing KOG agents is to passionately:

Connect people to God through Worship and Discipleship.

Connect people to the Church through Fellowship and Discipleship.

Connect people to Greatness through Service and Outreach.

MPC is a great place to belong, to grow, and to serve. This is a very exciting and challenging time in the life of MPC. I hope you will join us in this adventure of a lifetime.

Joyfully in Christ,

Pastor/Head of Staff
